Middle Eastern Red Sauce
Our go to Middle Eastern restaurant growing up (Pita Inn for the Chicago burbs folks) always served a spicy red sauce and our mom decided she’d make a version of her own. Her sauce combines red bell pepper, serrano, tomatoes, garlic, ginger, cilantro and sriracha sauce to make a healthy and flavorful addition to just about anything! We love using it on falafel, chicken shawarma pitas, on top of hummus of even with pita chips. If you’ve been following our Instagram stories you know we never have a falafel night without this red sauce!
Ingredients:
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 serrano pepper
- 3 plum tomatoes
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 inch fresh ginger
- 1/2 cup cilantro
- 2 tsp sriracha hot chili sauce
- salt to taste
Instructions:
- Blend all the ingredients together in a food processor until everything is well mixed and it’s the consistency of a sauce – this will take a few minutes so be patient.
- Also if you like it spicy you can add more serrano and sriracha hot chili sauce to taste.
- Enjoy!
